Painted Nails, Callused Hands

Like old souls
their hands lingered,
sometimes brushing,
one against the other
dancing tentatively back to back,
each wanting but waiting for the other,
both wanting to grasp and hold,
to passionately embrace.
to squeeze till the need is spent,
then lie in the restful splendor
of the other's warmth.
Painted nails and callused hands
longing for the other's touch,
too shy to be the first to show the need,
brush again in cloaked desire,
then part forever...waving
goodbye.
