Over here in the UK we used to call them 'greasy spoons'there's still a few but you have to search them out.

They do have a timeless quality about them prerhaps it's the fact that the food's been there an awful long time.

Nostalgia I love it.

Stay warm and fed

Jon

All these moments
In time
Will be Lost
Like Tears in the rain

I'm kinda sorta sorry about this, Sir Balladeer, but reading your poem about idyllic diners, which one can still sometimes find, put me in mind of something I wrote some time ago....um....reposted from 6 in response.

Can I get a coffee refill?

Pour me another cup of coffee!
I'll take the good days of diners and social fun, over the elegance of "fancy," any ole day!
Pass the biscuits and honey please.

Balladeer-
   Well, hiya, hon!
   I know I'm a little late, but did I
make it in time for breakfast?
I'm LOVING this little flash to the past!

you would like the fine-dining we have here in redneckville, TX, Mr. B. I believe my first introduction to you was at Lucy's Cafe.  LOL!

I love your true-to-life poetry....honest and real.

Thank you, Mary Anne. That's what diners are....honest and real. Pass the red-eye gravy, please
