                              The Memory – Part 3

                              She unfolded the parchment
                              blackest ink, his bold hand before her
                              but tears fell so hot
                              her throat choked
                              her mind discarded that which was
                              before her eyes
                              she thought back to the first time
                              their eyes had met….

                              The years fell away
                              she could see the youth of him standing
                              before her
                              at a harvest dance, she,
                              on the stool her maiden had set down
                              for her, had looked up at him
                              his brown eyes snapped merrily, belying
                              the crooked smile that fairly danced on
                              his countenance,

                              “M’lady, would thou honor me,
                              and my family,
                              by allowing me to take your hand ~
                              would you join me in this dance?”

                              Her heart had beat
                              so loudly
                              in her ears, it fairly disguised
                              the music,
                              his eyes danced so, she feared her feet
                              would fail her, but she said,
                              having found her voice,
                              “Yes, m’lord,” and stood.  He escorted
                              her to the dance floor, whispered,
                              “let us show them ~ magic!”

                              and her skirts whipped in time to the music….
