STONE

She stands above, (pillar of grace),
The etched marble of vanity;
In this, the final resting place
Of love I knew never could be.
And I, the human mockery,
With hand o'er heart and teeth on tongue,
Shall not oblige powers that be
With open wail or sorrows wrung.

But stand, instead, to question thus;
What smile glides o'er wicked eyes
To spawn in me this incubus
As soul of the soul slowly dies?
What life is this, within a stone,
That brings to boil such hate in me;
There, stood to see me stood alone
Within the hell of memory?

Who tempts me yet to touch her face?
Alas the Virtues must confess
That I, mere man... thereby disgrace,
Would surely jest to proffer less;
Or suffer to indignant cause,
The blisters of preordained Fate.
All flesh in me uphold her laws
To bleed of need I'll never sate...

And writhe within communion's trust.
One final toast to dreams well fed,
I throw my bottle to the dust
To chase that voice still in my head...
Where Darkness sings, where Silence cries,
And every night I die, alone.
I wake to see those craven eyes
And realize I, too, am stone.

Michael Anderson

But dreams of those who dream as I,
Aspiringly, are damned and die.

Stone is NOT a word I'd ever use to describe you, my friend.  You feel more than most - Your words are astounding, as usual.... Nice to see you...

"Of love I knew never could be.
And I, the human mockery,"

"What life is this, within a stone,
That brings to boil such hate in me;
There, stood to see me stood alone
Within the hell of memory?"

It's so wonderful to read you this morning Michael ... exceptional cadence and rhyme as always. I've read this several times, and each time, I seem to read yet something new into it. I very much enjoyed the ponderings this piece brought to mind for me (and there were many). Beautiful and thought-provoking Michael.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Michael~
Wonderfully done~

'And I, the human mockery,
With hand o'er heart and teeth on tongue,
Shall not oblige powers that be
With open wail or sorrows wrung.'

Enjoyed the thoughts.

No stone could ever write words that sing with such emotion. This poem flowed perfectly but had such feelings of sadness. I am so glad to read your work again, Michael...your talent comes from a heart filled with true life love and pain.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Michael, this is a strong, strong voice of poetry, you do it justice, and I would some day want it read aloud, at a national poetry reading...by you.  This is wonderful, and I thank you for your many gifts...
