Ten rises and falls of a full moon have kept me away.
Hundreds of the slain lie at my blood soaked feet.
My mind, tired of the quest, yearns for your touch.
I still see you there, a tear shed as I depart, go to war.

You dear one have stayed beside me.
I have watched over you for what seems like only days.
Three times the earth’s passage have taken us.
I wait at the bottom of your soles, my arms extended
my knees on the ground as I worship you.

I think of you not during battle, for fear of being slain.
I fight the brave fight that I might return, yet again.
Your smile beckoning spurs me on, my steel slices
A thousand fold have died for love, I save my life for you.

My body tires of this quest, my soul tattered and torn.
My blood flows from many cuts, my heart beats on.

I rest a fitful sleep, my dreams fleetingly see your face.
Tears fall from shut eyes, salt pools in an ear.

If you wait another moon, I will surely see you then.
My steed rests to take me there, the stars guide the way.

Rest dear maid, smile for me, shed not another tear.
For I fight this fight for thee.   For you my precious dear.
