You so needed to be touched
and all that could be gained
was the memory

the one that has haunted
in dreams of cold sweat
hot tears
and lies

It did not soothe in stroke
but burned in the hole left
empty inside

Would have been a simple thing
to have someone touch a cheek
stroke a neck
perhaps place a tender kiss
on lips afraid to speak
what was just under your tongue

but I have seen fires burn
leaping from dead to dead
devouring the things left behind
just before they destroyed
that still alive

Such trails as are ignited
by the memories
and sometimes
by the touch

Who indeed does not need
To be touched?

Yet…
Playing with fire
Can leave scars.

Ron, have you been poking around in my heart?! I feel this. Excellent writing!

Yep, that's the one.  The memory that haunts with fire that does not warm, only burns.
Applause for this one, Ron.

A most powerful, haunting write.  You do this so well, make it seem to easy, and speak so deep from the well.  Thank you.

Good to see your name back here Captain.

Boy have I missed you C! And this the bridges are burned....but I believe you can still swim the channel...to a loving shore. Especially with such exquisite verse.

Yet a fire can burn safely in a well protected fire place... Stoked and maintained properly - embers can burn indefinitely...

Your words are artfully spoken, Cap'n Ron... I always enjoy your work...
