A Candle is Burning

A candle is burning in the seasons of the past
From the small flame of reminisce, a sweet glow is cast
On the cheek of a dreamer, on a tear of remorse
Like the tear from a candlewick following its course

There’s a small flame consuming the truth of a kiss
As it lights up the memories of love’s sacred bliss
A candle is burning in my heart’s tender core
As it’s glows on a love that remains forever more

The flame only flickers but is never suppressed
For the love that was mine, I have been truly blessed
A candle is burning in my window tonight
As I dream in the softness of the white taper’s light

A candle was burning on the night that we met
And its glow on your face I will never forget
A portrait remains in the window of my mind
Where the candlelight kindles a passion sublime

A candle is burning in the depth of my soul
And it lights up the sorrow that its warmth can’t console

Liz this is absolutely stunning...
I wont even have the words to tell you how this one touches me, just know you wrote my heart with this beautiful bittersweet emotive piece.....
the highest compliment one poet can give another is to say "I wish I had wrote this"
tho my stumbling muse could never touch this.
Poetry in motion ..you are.

When your own emptiness is all that's getting through
There comes a point when you're not sure why you're still talking
I passed that point long ago

Beautiful writing.

I feel I was somehow intruding on one of the most tender moments ever captured in sorrowful words, and also feel honored you shared it with me/us.  I, like Janet Marie, only wish I could have written this for my friend Willow, but thank you for opening the door today to more memories of her.  Maybe that is what candles are for?  (hugs)

Yes, these are my favorite lines, too...beautiful, beautiful poem, Liz...your words do such a love great justice...superb imagery and rhyme as well...I truly loved this!
