Your photograph

still affords me
a moment of delusion

just long enough
to fleetingly embrace
the narcotic dream of us.

You are beautiful..

I am better on paper

this time
let’s leave me there.

Speak for yourself Baladeer, I'm better in person (particularly after a few beers!!! lol)

Seriously Duncan, this is another perfect piece of writing from your heart. I do so enjoy reading your poems. You manage to pack such depth of feeling into such a short piece. Simply wonderful again (and somehow, though your writing is wonderful on paper, I think you'd be better in person

I have a friend who says this all the time. I echo Balladeer. We are all better on paper. I'll add my own thoughts too. What we put on paper is often a part of us, so at least it does exist.  I loved this.

Love has many masks. I am but one of them.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Your poems say a whole lot more, but with less words.

So true...you've expressed this phenomenon (I hate that word...it's so hard to spell!) perfectly

Your beautiful words & creativity allow me to connect with the same in myself.

Love letters only, yes?  Your brevity remains striking, as always, gives so much in such thin lines...

Awesome poem Duncan.  Although I suspect you've got your good points in person, too.  I'd be willing to take you off the page for a moment

This one I think I'll put on my "Best Poems" shelf.

Your photograph

still affords me
a moment of delusion
let me just sigh....

Poetic verse nestled in the warmth of my heart, reveals the sweet yearnings of my soul....

I'm sure you're good in person too. There is always a desire in us to be what we were before. Doesn't our past always seem better than what we have right now. Our mind works that way. Great poem.

Then you should draw a great big heart! We are all more expressive on paper...but it has to come from a heart and soul...and your's beats across the page. Wonderfully done...an excellent keeper for all us poets of paper and pen!

Regina

A respectful presence takes many forms. Physically it takes only self confidence and passable looks, both ephemeral. In this forum it requires talent and wit, both not easily obtained. Good write.

================================

oh does this hit home...
all poets are better on paper..
and writing "lets us leave "there"

Of all the things in me I could never be,
of the true I kept hidden from view,
the best parts of my heart ...
were the ones touched by you.
