The Lady of Shallot

I cut facets
from an emerald locket
to offer litanies when you fell asleep.

I imagined slivered gems
had floated from eternity sparkling
in your eyes when you awakened.

I polished a diamond heart and
placed it in your grave when you died.

I weep beneath a china blue sky,
twirl a gold band,
and welcome ruddy leaves.

Then the rain falls
through lattice air;
Shadows become mesh silence.
I smile, knowing
I have captured every jewel
we ever reflected.
