the 1st written before the sermon, after learning that the striking back had begun; the second, was written during the sermon

Stop Them At All Costs!
Virginia Salter

Stop them!
Stop them!
Mop them up
with power!
They must be halted
this very hour!

But wait!
But wait!
We’re not quite ready,
we want to hide
our precious children
flee them to the hills.

Lift our loved ones
into a sanctuary
before we bury
Satan’s servants.

We want to
place the innocent
within your loving care
and help them know
You are ever there.

The sermon was titled as poem. It was contrasting old testament law with new testament command from Christ.
The Oldest Law of All
sermon poetic response/summary

Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth
a life for a life,
gettin’ even,
gettin’ right,
stoppin’ all
horrendous strife.

Surely that is how
we stop these awful acts
we look back and see
how we’ve remained free.

Free of battles?
Free of anger?
Free of danger
from hat and greed?
Gettin’ even
thwarts the rancor seed.

Yet to fulfill the law
He stepped into this world
laid down His life
on a cross made of wood.
To be the healing
the antidote
the salve.
To help us know what we have in His arms
in His power
on the shoulders of our God.

(the last stanza is my questioning plea in response to world events and message of the sermon and Bible)

Then how
do we align
the old with the new?
How de we cope
with the world in a stew--
boiling and broiling,
a witch’s brew.

Without the experiance of love where would we be? We would have no memories to cherish.
With love it brings hurt with hurt bittersweet memories.

Thanks, Heather...one thing about it...I'm more in tune to what's being said in the sermon when I'm paying attention and responding in writing. And if I forget the sermon later...I can always go back to my poem and get the gist or my reaction to what was said. :O}
Thanks for reading.
