where insanity meets breeding

So they look at me and think I’m lucky
And how perfect my life must be
In my garage sit two shiny sports cars
On the driveway the Mazda makes three
My closets hold designer clothing
In the box the jewellery does glow
I’ll drink a fifty dollar bottle of wine
But there’s something I think they should know
For what are all of these trappings
When the heart is bereft of a soul
For once my life was much richer than now
But that was before you let go
The days when I had to count pennies
Before I could go down to the pub
But money really meant nothing
For I had you, my sweet love
Sometimes my car would run out of gas
Cause I hadn’t the price of a fill
But none of all of that mattered
When my heart just couldn’t sit still
Do you know that I’d trade all my barrels of gold
To be seduced once again by your charms
Do you know that I’d go back to nothing
To once more be wrapped in your arms

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

These ending lines really touch the soul.
Beautiful Tracey!

Well, I don't have that many cars but the one I do have is a Miata...and I know exactly from where it is you write.  I'd go back to foodstamps to be with her.  Silly as it sounds, it was fun then.

Dark Angel-thank you. Glad I touched your soul. He touched mine very deeply

Duncan-I love those Miata's. One of my cars is a Lotus Elan-the Miata apparently was based on it. And the foodstamp thing does not sound silly. That is exactly where I was writing from. I'd give up everything I have today, to go back to those days

Hey girl, just send those extra wheels up here to me, I go through wheel bearings and axles like most people go through cookies and milk.
But of course, it is true, that love is what really counts. "All that glitters..." you know the rest.
Thanks for the good read, Tracey.

Ouch, this one hurts.  Money is nice, but it does nothing to ease your loneliness or keep you warm at night.  Very well written.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

Midnitesun-you probably wouldn't want those extra wheels, they're pretty temperamental. Lets say I get my moneys worth from CAA (or AAA in the States)    As for the "all that glitters" it is so very true. Actually, if I'd thought of that proverb, I'd probably have included it in the poem.

Lone Wolf-yes, it hurt as I wrote it. I'd never actually put it into that context until I wrote the poem.

Reminds me of the time I had bought a new sport car and shortly thereafter I lost my girlfriend and the car didn't seem so shiny any more...I remember when we went to the drive in and put a big heart on the dash with nail polish...James

I know the feeling. You can't buy love. But If we could we'd buy some time to be be with the one we love. It's funny for me to go back and think when we (My hubby and I) first met. I couldn't afford an air conditioner in my Van. (It Quit on me) And this man saw how my children and I were baking in 98 degree weather. My Mom kept pushing me to go see him cause he'd help me. I was too proud to show up at his shop cause I couldn't pay to have it fixed. She made me go....(She knew him for 5 years) and I married the AC Man! LOL! He was so kind to help me that I now owe him the rest of my life! My Mom takes all the credit as cupid of course. Even though my situation was opposite, Your poem brought back that time of my life when I was too proud (and poor)to see that there might be love around the corner. I hope for you too Tracey...even though you aren't in dire straits, everyone needs love. Hugs to you!

Sincerely,
Regina

why is it that we're always happier when we have nothing??

this is the question that will never really have an answer. . .

great job here, it speaks to me. . .

James-you put nail polish on the dashboard of your new car??!!! Must have been true love

Regina-that is just such a beautiful story. Love is found in the strangest places isn't it? I'm so glad for you that you found the man of your dreams. Thanks for the hugs, and my optimistic soul does believe there will be another true love for me

Sven-yes, it is a question that I ponder too. Glad my piece spoke to you

Bill-thank you for the kind words

Aimster-thank you for the lovely words of praise

Tracey, I know just what you mean, you said it, I would give up anything for the moments that are impossible to recapture.
(I don't have much to give up though, and no one wants it anyway)
