The chilly air touches my skin
Suddenly  I am aware
Of every exposed surface
Of my body

The chill penetrates deep
Slowly my energies dwindle
To a snail's pace
Becoming  frozen animation

I fight the thought of hibernation
I fight the thought of death and freezing
I feel the need of a fire
I tell myself to gather kindling
I feel the need for blankets and flannel sheets
I look into the high shelves of my closets
I feel the need for comfort of warmer things
I search for long sleeved shirts and sweaters

My inner parts are seeking warmth
I put a pot of chilli beans upon the stove
Cornbread in the oven
The kitchen becomes my winter cave
My place to chase the chill

Anyone want to join me?
