chaos

The gate says Anonymous
patiently painted in a simple hand.
No one lives here or ever has.
This way leads out, nothing here,
nothing around, never was.
It is all clear and never claimed.
A most dangerous game.

Whatever it is
silently slithering alone
before the glass you hold,
imagine it magician
shaken statistician,
half light seen sideways,
the fascination of chance.
Imagine it entrance.

But not this:
The first step of doubt,
a languid, cool gliding
along the unknown path,
the birth of birth,
life, love, death,
and the dim first brush
unowned

The sibilant hiss of the alchemist
new hope for new belief
in the wise, and new gods
praying, old facts gaining,
showing the path to new eyes.

Might it imagine anything less,
loving, living, hiding sighs,
because it is walking,
mired in the day, talking
waste, most prized

imagine it
turned away

loving disease in poetic phrase,
curtained summons by day.
Talk of it.  But not why.

Common flower grown today,
gods give you sun, light,
you unnamed
grown from a cold wind,
you in the eye of the world,
you drawing heat
doubled in

sliding along the surface
of the skin,
you undying orchid
drained within

reveal here common mechanics:
electron paths, plastic, glass,
presentable, logical, perfectly sensible
young and unblemished
doubled in

reveal
attack from below, beside, above,
charity, trust, kindness, love.
But the best is yet to come:

an old man in the basement
deaf, dumb and blind
pounding at the door:
chaos at the core.
