In honor of his hearts' desire
he paints the autumn hills with fire .
Laid bare his soul for all to see
on sycamore and poplar tree .

Burnt umber orange of mighty oak
reminds him of a pledge bespoke
that he'll again return to thee
his love throughout eternity .

The earth responds with crimson blush
of vibrant maple in full flush .
The beech and willow fuel the blaze
eclipsed , the sun averts its' rays .

Though worshipped well as is his due
he can't out-shine this love for you ,
and so enraged he does decree
that only briefly can we see ,

displays of passion this intense
and not without great consequence .
So , jealous sun calls winters' hand
to purge the color from the land .

Yet pure as snow this heart shall be
and spring renews his love for thee .
In summers' kingdom of the sun
for him you are the only one .

'Til fall returns my love and then
tis I who'll paint them all again .

Awesome poem!  It is absolutely perfect!  I always wondered why winter had to come after fall...Darned old jealous sun!

I loved it.
PS, I've decided that writing for your own enjoyment is probably the best reason of all!

Dang Doc! That be some mighty fine writing.  Truely excellent work!  You need to steal Pablo's paint brush more often.  I'll echo the words of those before and simply say, "Beautiful!"   Peace!

Excellent!  I like the way you developed the theme and then close the poem so cleanly.  That's not an easy thing to do.

Enchantress , Tracey , Zinsser , Cpat , nakd , Munda , Apache , Drew , sunshinemist ,
Lgn Jhn , Smitten ,

My thanks to you all . Your words are very kind . Autumn truly is my favorite time of year , I believe that makes it possible to share these thoughts in a way that comes through a little more clearly than at other times . Your comments are much appreciated .
May your Autumn be one of gorgeous views of sun-dappled vistas of un-rivaled color .
