closing my eyes
I reach out
for a hand
feel warm fingers
clasp my own

together we share
a peace
a serenity
blooming
from seeds of
terror sown

smoke and dust
swirl madly
around
through
in
and we cannot see

we feel the beat
of frightened
hearts
shaking with
uncertainty

and when the time
passes
and the dust
settles around us
we stand
together
proud

strangers
no longer
now friends
and fellow
Americans

all too true, but for this i have to post a reply in verse, so tonight i guess i'm going to have to post twice... you have inspired me (let the reader beware, i have a more cynical bent than you might expect)
but regardless of my incessant devil's advocatism, this is clearly deeply felt, and written in a way that conveys emotions even to those who don't share them. well done.

This made me feel that ultimately we will be alright...even better.  Thank you.

I certainly hope this is a feeling that lasts, and if it doesn't last for all people, I pray that we will all remember what good did come in uniting.   I love this, Sharon. It makes me remember what wonderful gifts humans are to each other when they realize their potential.

This is wonderfully YOU---and that second verse could be my epitaph..grin...

and yes, I can feel the healing begin. (Why do I always get itchy when I heal...hmmm...smile and wink!)

You have written a sense of peace, here Sharon!

This is deeply touching Sharon! I told you you've done a superb job this.

This is one to keep, a reminder for always.

Something good comes every bad thing, as you so eloquently stated it, Ms. DeVine.  Have you noticed that our politicians are more interested now in getting work done instead of getting reelcted?  Thank God for that.

Sharon, I feel that somehow, love will win the fight. In the country turmoil, and in my own as well.
I hope its not a hopeless hope.
