Still Come with me into the evening now as the horizon absorbs the pewter sky and turns it dusky for the children are blowing horns and their voices are glee tuned Across my sloping gloom they wave their bright balloons I can hear them out the window the girls in whisper of giggle their scooters sweep the street and scatter the tiny blossoms of the golden rain tree They take me into their hello their eyes shaded for a moment as I try to take some joy from them they turn down the moment with a shrug and I am left watching myself so many years ago hiding go seek Fall has not caught the air yet and summer’s boys still sit on curbs long into the evening waiting waiting for the growing to be over and complete to happen I could tell them that I wait too but they would not understand but I sit with them just the same across the street on my own curb still growing still [This message has been edited by Martie (edited 10-03-2001).] |

I think my "still" got stuck... (or maybe its "on hold")*wink* thank you for the view from the curb on a late summers eve.  meWe're all feeding our lonely ... like it might go away, Like the doors of heaven will swing wide ... if we just find the right words to say. I love my neighborhood and this reminds me of the feeling that I get when I sit there and watch the children play. Beautiful. |

Are all your poems this wonderful? I only wonder, why do we have to outgrow the ability to "turn down the moment with a shrug"? I guess I'm just coming to terms with the change in life. I "still" dont understand. Thanks for making me think. |

Hi Nancy...yes, we should always continue to grow..that's what living is for. Janet Marie--Your still IS...believe me...I have seen it! Walker--Children are beautiful, aren't they. Sy--smile!
