Donning black masks
blue tights and red capes,
they ready for the day...
its the MIS Team(Superheroes),
able to-install multiple computers
in a single bound, remedy
illegal actions with a phone call,
fix problems with but a glance,
be in four places
all at once (and still hand in
weekly progress reports
on time)...

Knowing what lurks
in the www.darkness,
just waiting for a
unguarded pathway or a
shared folder to wiggle inside,
they readied themselves,
all stations inoculated
with the latest innovations.
Defenses equipped and
on standby, they wait.

In subterfuge, slinking in
devilish disguise
the virus lay hidden
lying in wait until
the moment when they
were most unaware.

It strikes in silence.

The front lines are down,
messages radiating-- Watch out!
It is coming!
Their trusted wall of defenses
they find more like a sieve...
server number one is down,
they rush to inject updates into
two three and four.
The team specialists surround
the victim with operating disks, white papers, and command prompts,
carefully honed...they start to work.
The others scatter in all directions
seeking knowledge and
battle field stories from
any and all allies.

Tighten the network,
shut it down if you have to,
they say with steely resolve.
We must prevent any more leakage.
They slice in with sharpened wits
and tools for disinfection,
but soon they are floundering.
They do their best
but the victim is failing,
their wary attacker
has covered all tracks
and grows more immune
to their efforts by the minute.
Reboot Reboot they yell
as they call for
a rescue disk and a
surge protector.

A blinking cursor slowly appears
and all breathe just a bit easier.
It is but a drop in the bucket
this they all know,
now is when the hard work starts.
They prepare to assess how
widespread the damage,
The hospital is readied,
the wounded are many.
The gurney is oiled and stands
ready, but exhaustion sets in-
hard drives, zips and
three and a quarter inch floppies
are all retired till the next morn.

As the Team heads out
the door for the night,
they are met  by the
worried faces of those
whose collective (work related) efforts
they fight so valiantly to protect,
hesitantly the question is voiced
that weighs heavily on everyone's mind...

Can we get back on the internet yet?

in the murk of midnight's pall
elusive virus decks the hall
wending bytes uncertainty
lending all anonymity...

glad to have you back among the poets....
