When I was a child,
my mother taught me how
to thread needles,
hem pants, sew on buttons and patches.

I think every child,
boy or girl,
needs to know how to sew.
It has served me well over the years.

She has long since passed away,
but I still remember
how she would
wet her index finger and thumb,
then spin the thread into a fine point
so that it could be
more easily threaded through the needle.

Like holes in my boyhood jeans,
there are damaged places in my life,
mostly caused by bad decisions
I have made along the way.

I want to heal and move on.
It is time.
No one has the right
to hold me to a place of hurt.
I can dwell there no longer.

Today,
Iíll wet and spin the thread,
begin sewing patches
over those damaged areas
and not revisit them again.

Michael--Wonderful, uplifting and hopefilled write!!!  Loved the sewing reference.  I'll bet she would be pleased to know the lessons she taught.

this touched me...last week I sewed myself A Renaissance Gown to have a bit of fantasy and to dress me in a tapestry of forgetfulness, so as to have one day of pleasure and to no longer feel tattered and worn.

A wonderful tapestry of words you have written in this lovely verse.  It is good to see your presence here again.  Hugs.

Time to mend the torn places of the heart and soul. Something we all need to do from time to time.

Ah, MIchael, I hope you can patch everything to your satisfaction.  This was very well done, from the boyhood vision, to the ending.
