Today I cried some tears of which have hidden deep inside
Our dog of many, many years has joined the other side
He had the eyes of love and peace, but health had slowly waned
A heart of bad, no appetite, we saw and felt his pain

I drove him to the vet today, to see what could be done
But when I did, I choked on grief as God and death did come
Our Prince, he had been quite, loving without spite
Happy just to be a friend and do just only right

But nine years were a lifetime, which slowly came to end
A family member passed away and we had lost a friend
I’ve said a little pray for him and buried him real near
In a place where memories of Prince will come each year
In loving memory of our dog Prince, a Cavalier King Charles, aged 9.

Rick, this will touch so many who have lost a part of their four-legged family...a pet gives love so unconditionally, and your loss is shared by many...

Rick, So sorry about Prince.  We have beeen there also, and had to have our pet of 15 years put down a while ago.  It hurt terribly...they become, and are like a family member.  In time the pain will ease and you will recall with smiles the happy times with your pooch.  ~Hugs, Nancy~

Rick, A beautiful tribute to a loyal friend.   I have had 3 dogs of my own. They are indeed family. Sorry for your loss.
Warm smiles, Marie

I couldn't finish your poem, I will do so later at home (I'm at work). But wanted you to know that I know how you feel. Our pets become a part of the family and their death affects us as such.

*sigh* my heart goes out to you for the loss you had to endure. Pets can become such a part of us. You have written your feelings very well.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

God bless his soul, and despite passages to the contrary I believe our pets have them. As a youth I had a mutt, Duchess who was my constant companion. She lived a content and tail wagging fifteen years. My mother wrote a tear jerking poem in tribute and you remind me to encourage her finding it. Last May I buried Buster my cat who would have reached twenty had he lasted a few more months. I look forward to another companion to see me the rest of the way.

Rick,  after 53 years of my life having pets
almost every day of it has been a blessing.
I too grieve over each that I have left
behind. They each were a strong part of my
life and growth.   I know your grief and I
have great empathy toward your situation.
thank you for sharing these moments with me.

Rick, this is a lovely tribute to your beloved pal. We too, had to put our Doberman, Goose to sleep when she was the age of nine. That was a few years ago now, but I still mourn her passing. She was just a kind and gentle dog to some, but to me she was my champion, my hero, my best friend. Thankyou for sharing this with all of us. Your "friend" is now running on fields of clouds.  Chris
