Chilled

I rise in the chill, each day wondering why
I continue to be wrapped in the cold of thought,
where actions change nothing.

I step through a fog, hours passing like minutes.
Seconds only, felt in breaths absorbed, in and out
out and in, conscious that my rhythm is off.

Time slips me into you, catches my waking moments
before they too, will soon have me numbed,
powerless to feel, deadened to your appeal.

There is no reasoning, as I transfer day to day,
my life a rehearsal for a show that is bound
for an early close.

I have no draw, no lure, no power to excite.
Fatigued beyond failure, I go to my rest
each night weary in thought, warmed only by soaking
in yesterdays memories, knowing that come the morrow
I shall rise in the chill, once again.

"The worst prison would be a closed heart".
...Pope John Paul II

Incredible expression Maureen ... tinged with sorrow and filled with very beautiful phrasing, nicely written.

Best wishes,
/Kit

I feel the sadness, and I understand the chill. May warm return to you, soon. Lovely poem, you expressed this feeling well.
