She stared at me in disbelief
and anxious curiosity
while I ate my Oreo whole.
"You're eating it all wrong!
There's a proper way to eat
an Oreo you know."
You're supposed to pull it all apart
and lick off all of the cream
then dunk the cookie bite by bite
into icy cold milk, it seems.
She also said that once you learn
how to properly eat an Oreo
you'll understand what Life is all about
and that's all you'll ever need know.
And I just sat there in silence
holding my Oreo whole up high,
hoping never to learn how to rip
something so wonderful
apart.
And to this day I still eat my Oreo's whole
with a contented, happy sigh.

Now that I think about it...and I haven't had an oreo for awhile...so maybe I should start thinking about that...I eat them several ways but I suppose my favorite is to take it apart and slowly bite away the cream until I go impatient or crazy and start throwing the whole thing in my mouth...fig neutons are good too...James

Ah, the Oreos of the forum:
Chelsea, Sunshine, bonnie,smartchick,Marge....thanks!
Glad to have some food fun friends.

And for arthur: Oreos are a popular American cookie...2 chocolate cookies with a vanilla cream frosting sandwiched in between. And ever since they were first marketed, Oreo lovers have debated the proper way to eat these things. Send me your 'real' address in an email, and I'll send you some Oreos. My daughter is sending some to her Internet friend in England next week for the same reason. Actually, they have started an international exchange....a food fun frenzy of sorts, with Smarties from Canada, some gourmet English candies, and these delightful cookies from USA. (Why don't I have stock in Oreos?)

This Canadian thinks that oreos are yummy in the tummy!

I don't eat 'em whole, I have to unscrew the sides off and lick the cream first and then I dunk the cookie sides in milk!

This was a cool write~

Take care,
Melissa~

Hah ~ Must be a Canadian trait Melissa?  I do the same, unscrew it, lick off the icing, and then either eat or dunk the cookies, but then again, I learned this from a 3-year old!  Cute poem Midnitesun, and I bet the person correcting you was your daughter?

Yes, Melissa..they are yummy. Glad you enjoyed this yummy little poem.

Mysteria.. you are so perceptive. Yes, it is my Sara who declares I don't know how to eat an Oreo.

Interloper: Thanks for reading and eating them whole. My confession now, is that I eat them both ways. And I dunk them in coffee, which Sara thinks is totally gross.

Oreo cookies make me say Whoa!
I'm ready to rip open a pack and
dunk then straight into some milk, and
let the cookie morsels melt in my mouth.

Sunshinemist, Domzi: Thanks for reading. Your reward is too easy...you have to go eat three Oreos apiece for me...so I don't get those extra calories.

I must admit, I pull then apart, eat the middle, then eat the outsides. (Sometimes though, if I'm feeling really decadent, I ONLY eat the insides and throw the rest away. But that's only when I have a lot of them and I'm trying to save calories     )

By the way, if you send some to Arthur, you must get him to send you back a bar of Cadburys chocolate. There's nothing in the world like British chocolate. I just brought a couple of bars back, but sorry, I'm not sharing any of it

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Tracey, that is funny. My daughter does the same thing with her Oreos sometimes. I walk into the kitchen and find a plate full of cookies, no cream, lots of teeth marks. She claims she will eat them later, but often they will still be there the next day. And you took the words right out of my mouth regarding arthur. My daughter had her friend send a Cadbury bar. It lasted about 2 minutes. They aren't the same as the ones we can buy here. Maybe better quality chocolate? Anyway, thanks for reading.

No way!!! Ores are meant to be taken apart! That way in reality you have three parts....two halves and the center. The center is so rich as you scrape it off with your teeth and, without the filling attached, you can set the two halves on your tongue and they will melt slowly all by themselves. Oreos are to be eaten with a flair, not gobbled down like big wafers!!

(of course, this comes from a man who does the same thing to M&M's   )

LMAO again. You are so funny! I can just picture you with a mouth full of cookies melting on your golden tongue. And my teenager agrees with you about scraping with the teeth.

Finally, the professional Oreo eaters are speaking out.  It's nice to finally have a leader.  You're very brave.  Thanks,

Larry: LOL at that leader business. If I can't lead a peace march, maybe I can at least lead a piece of fun around the world.

Oh my gosh...I can't believe I almost missed this one. I am an OREO worshipper. There is no other sweet in comparison to me. I will take an OREO over anything out there. Whole with milk, crunched up over ice cream, stuck in vanilla pudding, pies, I am an OREO connoisseur! I fight my children for them! I always tell them "You'll never be able to eat an OREO without always remembering me!" I love this poem! I love Double Stuff!

Sincerely,
Regina

Oh, Regina...you really do have it bad for those crazy little cookies. I'm sure you've already eaten the orange filled Halloween ones by now...we have eaten about half a pack already. Glad you didn't miss this poem.
