Our Flag

wheresoever it flies
and destiny trembles from fear
from farflung East to homeby West
to forbidden chilled North to tropically bit South
the tillers of democracy sewed the banner
and posted the sepulcher of red white blue
Red so the blood may not be forgot
of the souls lost in salvation's gain
White so we may remember that purity
and righteousness that must always be paramount
Blue so heavenly skies may bless our visions
and hear our prayers of nobler pleas

Every wing of man in America flies
Every heart pulses with the same trodden truths
Every eye casts natural pride inward
as the banner whips in altered winds
still dusty, our countenance looks up to highest echelons
and sends soaring the tears of pain
upon stripling dreams of freedom
our flag alone knows the wisdom
that our fathers knitted thread into thread

may we be have the insight
to know what to do with
the awesome power
of Freedom

Bravo!  I am not an American but if I were, I would be extremely proud to keep this and read it often, and as a matter of fact, into my library it goes.  I liked all of it, but this hit me the hardest, and again, well done!

beautifully patriotic!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
