She learned to count with pennies and pebbles,
Sculpted great cakes in the mud and red clay,
Stones in artistic piles and boards were tables,
What was about her was with what she’d play.

She married for love and forever stayed
Then He went to fight in another land
Always was faithful her heart never strayed
She’d always cry at talk of Viet Nam.

She raised a daughter on just memories
Then the daughter was taken away too,
She learned to speak about life’s destinies,
Given the choice nothing would she redo

Seems I’ve out lived another childhood friend,
Since she went to be with both of them.

Gloom

Truly sad, Gloom.  Life can be cruel at times.  Nice expression.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

Oh my friend, this was a very sad and painful poem.  I still hurt from the memories of friends in Viet Nam, and the series of events by your friend was "life". All one can do is remember those parts of all of their lives that meant happiness, so their memory can live on.  PF you see, that was heart wrenching and very beautiful, not gloomy, but filled with emotion and love.   And I thank you for sharing her with us.

Professor~

Your title brought me in ...

'She learned to count with pennies and pebbles,
Sculpted great cakes in the mud and red clay,
Stones in artistic piles and boards were tables,
What was about her was with what she’d play.'

Your words of loving tribute held me~
Thank you for sharing~
