I remember when every step I made you were just one step behind
Both breathing peace within our own common land
You were but a thought away and so close that our minds could touch
Was no safer feeling than your fingertips resting in my hand...

Then one day my heart woke to find you painfully gone
Your missing face left me to wonder what I meant all along
Oh, the sky turned gray like it knew pain by the look in my eyes
All I kept replaying were your lips and your heartbreaking lies...

To what I thought was a promise for all my life
Soon found me way down here on my knees
