THIS POEM WAS A REQUEST FROM MY DAUGHTER WHO’S FRIEND LOST HER SON-IN-LAW IN THE TERRORISTS ATTACK ON THE TWIN TOWERS ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.

FIRE FIGHTER HERO

There cannot be a braver man
Then one that stops destructions plan
That fights the wild consuming fire
With hands, heart and true desire.

He is a giant in our eyes
A mold of man that often dies
The bold that stands and holds the line
The rare and finest of our fine

I bow my head in silent prayer
Within the dust and litter there.
With heavy heart and heavy soul
A life that’s given in this toll

Each mans death diminishes me
Especially the brave and free
There are no words that I can write
To weigh the scales and balance right

My heart is full of sorrows twist
And God forgive they will be missed.

In Memory of
Chuck Mendez

Bravo!! It is thanks to them and their courage that many hundreds if not thousands were able to flee... they deserve the honor and recognition as well as the thanks from us all.

Wonderful tribute...

This is so beautiful Sy...
thank you for sharing this tribute with us...
Im going to share this with my sis and her husband..they are both volunteer firefighters ...and while this unspeakable tradgedy has made us all look hard at their bravery...everyday all over the world..these quiet men and women of ALL the emergency departments risk their lives for us...

Day in and day out they are the quiet heros
that we depend on.
In our worst moments...they are at their very best.

You have said it so well, such amazing people, that can walk into hell with a willing heart, to try to help their fellow man.
I admire them all so much, and am so heartbroken at the losses of these bravest hearts.
