On Little Tiptoe Feet

Autumn comes around the bend on little tiptoe feet
It treads upon the summer grasses, silent and discreet
Touching every rustling leaf of green with gentle brush
Gathering the flying wings of geese and singing thrush

Orange, yellow, amber grains abundant in the field
Compete with crimson, gold and bronze that oak and maple yield
Silent changes, bursts of color, all to please the eye
And touch the soul with joyfulness before the colors die

Autumn’s brilliance lingers there, within the eye still etched
Then suddenly erases all the beauty it had sketched
It  steps aside, allowing bitter winter winds to fly
And leaves the landscape barren without even a goodbye

God’s given us a glorious gift , to buffer winter’s blast
Ending summer gently, as the seasons of the past
Autumn teases us with splendor, then without remorse or doubt
It slyly turns its back and then discreetly tiptoes out

She tiptoed in and out of the forest last night as I walked upon the remains of her mischief this morning.  Oh, I loved this uplifting, wonderful poem today, thank you for this!

A wonderful thought, Liz! I suppose Spring and Fall are gentle buffers between Summer and Winter so that they may ease in and out...I like it!
