Dwindling day defers to darker powers
In courting pleasing promises to all
It will change plain trees to colored flowers,
Vanity then leaves for this season's fall.
Auburn's rusted ruins to earth showers
Dry, brittle rustling passage is it's call,
Decayed remnants where once was bloom cowers
Drawn tight a widowed world's bleak prayer shawl,
Sadly stripped the humbled bare limbed bowers
Now witnesses it's wind raked offspring crawl,
The only saving grace light's shortened hours
For viewing beauty's wake 'fore shroud snowfall.
Dark the long cold night all life is facing
Silver hair of Autumn is it's bracing.

I do so enjoy when you rhyme divine...
your cadence dances across the page..
and your imagery turns the page to canvas  superb portrait your have penned here poet sir

Well tomorrow holds only mystery
And who's to say what might be
But in you I found a love so strong
The sun and the moon looked on in jealousy

Beautiful! Thank you for giving me a taste of the colors of fall (we don't have autumn here, we have summer, summer, cool summer, summer).

Very beautiful RSWells.  You capture the moment well.  Thank you for the beauty.

Richard your use of the seasons as your metaphor was excellent, to lead us through the recurring seasons to fall and then winter being the "final" one or death!  Well done indeed, but very dark.  Shoot, I guess I am in Fall!  Oh well, I had a great Spring, Summer and Fall is not too bad, so I will hold my breath when Winter comes.

I love autumn, and here you've portrayed it so well.

God bless America, my home sweet home.

Excellent images, as you always provide. Since you encourage constructive critiques, allow me to point out that one of the main requirements of sonnets is that they be written in iambic...however, it is still a good poem.
