Grief  (September 2001)

In this summer of loss,
As crops wither,
And many picnic in the dust
Of the irrigation ditch,
I go in search of springs.
Deep within the woods,
Beyond the paved,
Beyond the washboard, gravel road
Used by the National Forest Service,
My sweat spills
While blood so throbs against my thought
To make me stop
And pant
For life.
And yet, to shadow death
And miss the pure and boundless bright
Anoints grief
Falsely. The path leads up
And up and up through evergreens
That to the larch and tamarack
Give lie,
Till finally, with pain and ache
The heart breaks out
And cries aloud
To mountaintops.

RMW~
You've touched my heart~

'so much throbs against the temple of my thought
To make me stop
And pant
For life.'

'Till finally, through pain and ache
The heart breaks out
And cries aloud
Of mountain tops.'

And I've found my tears again and again and again~
*Hugs*

Bob,

It is indeed a time of grief, and it isn't over yet. Both of my cousins have been called to duty, one of them is already in the Persian Gulf...

Take care,

Cor

Such deep feelings expressed in a way I wish I could.  My tears have been limited to places closer to sea level.

I loved it with all my heart.

I too had to search the peaks for solace. I felt your deep sorrow in this poem.
