Hands held up in supplication
Give back to us our peaceful nation
Feel the anger now transcending
Love of brother, never ending

Destruction in the guise of descent
Heal the wounds of nation rent
Put down the sword, hang up the lance
Think ye now to give peace a chance.

Take that eye, for eyes sake alone
Tis thus for blindness we atone
If thirst for blood hungers in your breast
Seek sport of men as vengeance quest

In these times of patriot's passion
Please, dear friends, have some compassion
Judge not those who's appearance be
Likened to that of thine enemy

From broken heart, hear my voice cry
Let not another innocent die.

Fantastic!  These two lines scream to be heard ...

"Judge not those who's appearance be
Likened to that of thine enemy"

If nothing else, those that died should have died that we should all demand peace!  Thank you for writing this.

A very poignant and powerful piece Sharon. Beautifull composed, with a wise message to all, much enjoyed my friend!

Best wishes,

Sharon...this shows your heart--but is nearly not as lovely. We differ, perhaps, on courses of action/inaction, but then? for the record, good poet people we have never even discussed it. Your level of compassion remains an ideal that I can only strive for. Beautifully written my lovely friend!

As much as we all desire that no person gets hurt in what is to happen, peace has been, down through the ages, purchased with blood.  The few have given the full measure in order that the many may enjoy peace.
