Rubber chickens lie neglected ,
whoopee cushions make no sound .
Joy has left those little buzzers ,
gone to where it can't be found .

Searching for some explanation
groping for the slightest clue ,
as to what has caused this silence .
" What's a clown like me to do ? "

Nothing up my sleeve and , Presto !
( used to work but not no more .)
Prestidigitations's painful ,
when there are no laughs in store .

Someone call a doctor , pronto !
Wait a minute , let me see ...
I was one of them back when , so
what the heck is wrong with me ?

Write myself a new prescription ,
nothing fancy , just enough
to pull me out of depression ,
( get me feeling up to snuff ).

Start to feel a wee bit better
( thought it might be terminal ).
Write some stupid little ditty ,
and my world is not so full ,

of those shattered dreams that haunt me
and , at least , just for a while ,
muster up some imitation
ghost of a forgotten smile

If I may, I'll use your last verse as my goal - one muster per day, no matter how it hurts.   I like this a lot.

Thanks for your slight of hand tricks to make me smile, when I haven't been doing much of that since last Tuesday.  Joyce

Dr Moose it's good to see you
For I need a smile today
Thanks for this prescripton
To keep the blues at bay

(by the way, no wonder "prestidigitations painful" - gives ya carpal tunnel syndrome just typing it!!!)

Thanks for the smile.
