Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-09-23 07:36 AM

Only When Alone

odd, but it’s always been
that way
tragedies strike, she moves
in quiet tandem
with wind and sun
to hurry along the source
of hope,
winding words into
bandages
words of “it will be
all right,” as hands pluck
at coverlets to
warm again the soul
of those in need…

she will not take in
the air that you
need to breathe through
this catastrophe, but
holds on to

whatever she holds on
to,

it’s not yet her time…

she becomes focused on the
needs and heeds others
in their time, knowing that their
pain is more, just
now
their needs are more, just
now
and says naught but
“it will be all right,” knowing
that will never be enough
to wipe the memories
clean of what once was

how change comes so
rapidly…

as the dust settles, as night
befalls the day’s warm,
as the dry earth melts into
fog’s embrace,
and soaks in the vague
clouds that mist over,

time moves on…

and so it will be, who will
know when, days, weeks,
months shall roll by,
inextricably,

but only when alone,
will she cry

I know this woman, Sunshine, and you described her perfectly. I think we all know her....she's the mother...or wife....or anyone with the inner strength to keep her weaknesses in check when she is needed.

....could even be the statue of Liberty

Even in normal life, how many of us say what we really feel? We can speak of much, but not want others to pry into our inner feelings and thoughts. The strength of many becomes the assurance that their personal feelings remain theirs to do with as they please, many live on hope, fed by belief and others.

I enjoyed the read; it touched a spot in my heart tonight.
Great work Sunshine.

Sincerely
Rick

Oh this is beautiful..I thought it perhaps to be in reference to the Statue of Liberty as well.  Enjoyed.  Nancy.

Well I think there is a little "Statue of Liberty" in us all at times, as I too identified with this one Sunshine. An excellent writing.

Very nicely done... have missed your words on the pages the last week...I see you have honed them in your absence..and given us the pleasure of reading what your mind has been working on...
