Bonding

She bends toward existence
watching days pass
at waist level.

when the sun rises
and bows to focus
the world at her height
she prays.

Light
penetrates the eyes

and amber blooms
full and vibrant
on womanhood's aged stalk.
.
Her husband stands
on the porch thinking

if he could gather
these seconds
and place them  in water

they might grow roots
and dangle
in clear stillness --

time ignored
as each day thins
into grayer trees and bone.
