How Was I To Know

my tears fell
on leather
as he shined
my shoes
after
he had made
his own
mirrored gleam
glancing across
at eyes
so blue
they melt
and swallow
you whole
looking
at my baby
seeing a man
look back
how was I to know
we would
switch places
where you become
my hero
and guard me
as I sleep

"...the rest is silence" (Hamlet)  Shakespeare

For Brian...my HERO

My...this brings back many memories. The shiny belt buckles, and buttons. The perfect creases and perfectly placed hat. It's like a different person imerges from the floor, up. I can only believe that you must have been a wonderful person for him to take on such a task. And yes, the image is never one we forsee....but strenghthens our hearts in constant salute. Constant prayers for you both and all.

Sincerely,
Regina
