Because I could not stop to grieve,
sorrow came to me
upon my front porch in a heap of
feathers and broken wing.
More precious than a summer snowball,
I placed it in my hand
shivering from all its ill -
I began to understand.

There's war tonight and someone's son
lies bleeding in the briar.
And huddled with a hundred fears,
some keep close to their fire.
The holy word is holy war
for those whose see no choice
while other people create law
for those who have no voice.
There's hunger and there' suffering
and some small child cries
as deafened ears replace their tears
with a syringe full of lies.

Because I could not stop to grieve,
sorrow came to me
upon my front porch in a heap of
feathers and broken wing.
And as its trembling body stilled
in peace at last I see,
I understood and asked myself
'will this dove live on in me?'

Those who have no voice are always the ones who suffer most. Let's hope there is a little dove in all of us.....excellent thoughts well expressed...

I felt your sorrow in this poem.  Its sad to think that the actions of people are dictated by others.

Great Write.

Wonderful work. I especially liked what I took from this poem, some peace.
