Terror in Their Sighs

Innocence of five year olds
Taken much too soon,
They look to the sky for missiles
Instead of the man in the moon.
Angelic little voices
Pledge allegiance to our flag,
Today they understand too well,
As tiny shoulders sag.
Little ones with heavy hearts,
With saddness in their eyes,
Trembling in their voices ~
Terror in their sighs.
Grown ups all around them
Have eyes that shine with tears,
Wanting them to have the peace
They've known for many years.
We need to hold them tighter,
They need dear Mom and Dad,
They need to feel assurance
That this world is not all bad.
They need to know that carefree days,
Will be theirs ~ once again,
And we will pray for peace to come,
As we wait ~ for until then.

I feel for the children..they are the innocents that suffer. We all need to participate in making them feel secure in this troubled world.

Your poem highlights a problem with all the children in todays world.
Well written.

I echo the sentiments and can only hope that the wait is not too long.
