I want my world back
it wasn’t perfect
far from it
but relative to this
it seemed Eden

I want my greatest fear to still be
that my girlfriend would wreck my red convertible

I want to be trivial and naïve, again
without thought to character or motive
sleeping in my sense of false security
without need of soporific

I want to write of loves moments
before it felt selfish
to speak of anything but loss and tragedy

I want the sports I never watch to play all weekend
the new fall series I’m never home to see
I even miss commercials
every 10 minutes
there’s not anything about the day the same

I want my world back
it wasn’t perfect
but I recognized it
each morning I woke up

Now, I open my eyes remembering words
my grandmother often spoke
‘I won’t see it in my lifetime
but you likely will in yours’
and if for nothing else I am grateful
that she’s high above it all

I want my world back

Wish our children could be above and beyond it all. Good poem.

Oh Duncan so do I but hon I'm afraid our world is never going to be the same. It's been changed forever.

Duncan your heartache is so evident in this and I hate that young people should have to feel this pain.

You said what alot of us are feeling. Unfortunatly things will never be quite the same as before. We will emerge stronger and better equipped to reconize our enemies.

Duncan, thanks for expressing so well what is in the minds of many these days.

This is my wish too...the wish to have back even one of the pauses in time it takes for "station identification"...

This poem gets me, right *here*.

When words cannot bear the burden of thought, it is the poet who lends them strength, hoisting the thoughts within reach of us all.

It's after midnight here, and I too want the world to go back a week. But I know we can't go anywhere but forward, we can't even stand still long enough to let it all sink in. But if we could go back, I would want to leave out several elements ...intolerance, greed, injustice, cruelty, poverty etc. And then we could go forward in peace and harmony, with every child having fun playing games, with lovers holding hands, and even music blasting too loudly from my neighbors car radio.

"I want my world back"

You've spoken many of our thoughts in this piece Duncan, well penned and highly emotive.

Best wishes,
/Kit

This touched my heart Duncan. I want it back too. Like a missing child! But we must treat it with love and patience. For it will have to heal....and trust again. Thank you for sharing.

Sincerely,
Regina

Took my mom by surprize she thought she wouldn't see it in her lifetime. I want my world back. But somehow perhaps now our world could be better, at least we could appreciate things more because our eyes have been opened.

Ah... very nicely done Duncan...and I think we are faced with a great many challenges ahead that will make us perhaps want our old world back even more... grab a hand..and hold on... we are all in this thing together and all face the uncertainty of tomorrow....but... we WILL make it..and we will do it together!

The past couple of weeks have been a tumultous time. I just pray that the healing and rebuilding will create a better world for all of us to share and appreciate. Very well done Duncan!

To return to such a time would be greatly desired, but alas we must forge ahead as one and overcome!

With my pen I shall create,
With my mind I shall explore,
With my strength I shall endure,
With my poetry I shall have legacy.

So do I, Duncan, I want that "believing" spirit and freshness I once had. Thank you for this.

Had to bump this one forward. Duncan, maybe your grandmother was referring to peace? and not constant suffering and devastation?
