It's hard to get roses to grow
in the land of auroras
and the midnight sun.
Unless you have a greenhouse,
they usually die.
And we have seen too much
of death already.
So I'm asking for someone
to help us dry our tears,
by planting a red rose bush
in honor of our fallen friends,
a rose to last many years,
enough to wipe away a generation of tears.
I'll send you cash each year
to help in caring for this rose
and each day a new prayer
for every lost soul
and each and every rose.
Is there someone out there
who can help me reach
this goal?
It might help to heal
this sad soul.

This rose bush is to keep ALIVE the MEMORIES as we proceed to the next step, which is to go on with our lives, and help the ones left behind to go on with theirs.

I am taking this poem to our garden club meeting tomorrow.  We will all plant red roses.  What a wonderful idea.  Roses grow beautifully here and they are blooming on as though they don't know the world is falling down around us.  Wonderful idea.  Joyce

Thanks Rose Petal. I had a feeling you might want to share in this. I had an Aunt Rose. She was sweet and gentle and kind. Even while dying of a brain tumor, and unable to speak, she found a way to smile a goodbye to everyone, making eye contact with one person at a time. She let everyone know she loved them and that she wanted them to be happy.

And Joyce, thanks. What a great idea...a garden club dedication would be a nice tribute. There are so many good poems at piptalk with roses as a subject. I'll bet you could find some real beauties from Marge, Irish Rose, your own writings, and probably the Rose Petal lady. Maybe there is a Passions Rose?

Oh Marge, thanks. Maybe we can plant  'A Rose For Each Soul'? Then Peace may bloom in gardens 'round the world.

Sunshine: Thank you for reading. The roses I would plant would be for Peace on Earth, not for any political association. If the Rose for Bush you speak of would be a political rose, I would not be a part of it. If its as a symbol of the unity of love and mankind, it would be ok, but I still wouldn't label it with a name..except maybe Father Mike or Jeremy, or one of the other true heros. This was a tragedy of worldwide proportions, affecting the flags and hearts of everyone. I see politics as being so divisive, my rose would never thrive in that environment. Hope I'm not misinterpreting or over-reacting to your comment.

MidniteSun~
Just letting you know that today my mentoring group planted four rose trees in honor of those who were on each of the planes, and those in Tower #1 - Tower #2 - and The Pentagon.

Eleven little 'angels' thought it was a 'SUPER' idea.
So here in Clermont, Florida ... memories will continue to bloom.
The rose trees were donated by a local grower and the items necessary for the upkeep of the rose trees has been donated by a local nursery.

AMERICA REMEMBERS ! !

Thank you for a lovely suggestion~

I already have 250 roses in my garden, but I'm sure I'll find a place somewhere for one special rose more.

Sven, thank you so much! The passionate poets at this site never cease to amaze me.
May this rose bring you and others who smell its sweet fragrance a reminder of all the love, compassion, brotherhood on earth, and may it help bring someone a feeling of peace.
