The Borders of Our Minds

As mayhem reigned and grief unfurled,
A cry rang out around the world;
We watched the devastation rise,
We heard the pleas, the fear, the cries.

Atrocities of lurid height,
Devoured all, through tortured fright;
No border could contain the dread,
That flowed beyond the blood that shed.

We saw the pain too close at hand,
That reached across a nation's land;
No lines were drawn through tears we shed ...
Reality had reared its head.

We saw reflections of our own,
Through every face of missing shown;
A friend, a neighbor, loved one flashed,
Amongst the news of aftermath.

For though surreal, we realized,
ALL borders have been compromised;
It's at our door, it's at our feet …
This terror that we rise to meet.

America is not alone …
Her borders stretch beyond her home;
Across the sea, across the land …
United in her cause, we stand.

Kit, well said and well done.  You speak my mind as well, for in unity we will stand strong.  It hits home hard for anyone, and you captured my sentiments exactly in your wonderful poem.

thank you for this sweet poetess of the North...
as I told Parker earlier...I have been very touched by the show of support from fellow Nations and countries...
it is quiet comfort..
the whole world has been touched and changed by this act of terror...its pain knows no borders or equators.
So good to see your smiling face here Kit-gator

The words and the music came through
But words and music can never touch
The beauty that I've seen in you

yes, yes, yes, we have to stick together, forget our own internal differences and fight this war, and I hate to say it but I know there will be one.

Thank you everyone. I had flown down to the States myself and was there all last week, in Virginia and West Virginia on a business trip.  We eventually took a very long car ride home Friday to return to Canada.  I was heartened by the show of warmth and support across the country through our drive. There were flags made of lights in house windows, flags on cars as we drove, flags on houses, and signs along the road ... it has touched us all, whether our home is inside or outside of the US border ...
