Dear Mr. President – Have a Cookie

a week ago a friend did
what a friend does – a favor

when asked how best I could
repay, he said “I like chocolate
chip cookies!”

I put it on my “to do” list

two days ago I picked up
ingredients for
chocolate chip cookies

yesterday, our nation was
attacked

war is imminent

people need blood
families need prayers
the country needs unity
children need reassurance
calm needs to permeate
and level heads, preside

and grief will come, later
tears will come, later

faith needs to be now
courage needs to be now
belief needs to reign supreme
in our country
ourselves
our President

Dear Mr. President

this morning I awoke
grateful

today I talked with people
who hope you do the right
thing

this afternoon, I kept tabs
on you, and yours,
awaiting your words

tonight I passed soccer fields,
parents are with children
giving support in a tomorrow
to come

Dear Mr. President

tonight I shall bake cookies
for the tomorrows
that shall be

in this, I have faith
in you and yours
in our country and it’s
  desire to remain free
in the fact that we can come
  together as one

I believe.

Here, Mr. President.  Have a cookie.

Wonderful.  This is the sort of faith we need.  I guess I'll go bake a batch of courage.  Joyce

I pray it the best sticky dough of courage there is! Thank you for being uplifting and courageous. I needed this. Now I have a craving. I do eat sweets alot when I'm nervous. I'm seeing strength I've never seen amoung all nations. I hope it continues.

Sincerely,
Regina

Hi Sunshine,

This is so strange because today I have been baking choc. chip cookies, baking is one of my stress relief things and the kind of cookie seemed so American and needed, thank you for your loving thoughts in this treasure of heart felt words.

Love, Cerenity

There are certainly many who will be first in line to criticize our president's actions - whatever they may be.  His job is thankless, and never can all be satisfied.

I doubt there's anyone anywhere who envies his position now - We must rally behind him and support him and his trusted advisors.

Let's all send cookies, shall we? Thank you, Sunshine...

Sunshine,
I don't know why I read this except I read most of what you write.  It has a strange title and I knew I would not like, but I am wiping tears as I now write.  This is the heart of where we all are right now.  This has been hard on everyone....the people who lost friends and loved ones....the ones that have watched in horror as this unfolded.  We all have one common thread.  We want to beleive....Thank you so much for sharing this.  I know we still have some rough times ahead of us, but when they come I will think of your cookies.  A Texan tips his hat to the lady and says "God Bless"

This is something that I needed to read.

Karilea

Very good sentiments.  I've heard that security around the White House is very, very tight right now.  So, because I am your friend, send me the cookies and I will deliver them later *innocent eyes*.

FANTASMIC!!!!  I read this while my niece was sitting on my lap.  She liked the picture of the White but said it looked upside down!  This poem reminds me of Andy Kaufmans "Cookies and Milk" after Carnegie Hall.  this is quite creative and I thank you very much for sharing...
