She calmly read in silence, by the light of candle flame
Enthralled by words which filled each line till end
Entranced by many stories, born of love and also pain
The words, which through a lifetime one had penned

With caring touch she turned each page of lover and her friend
Then saved the words which made her feel that way
Sighed a heavyhearted thought, which made one question end
The mistress which had plagued her mind, in ink did only lay

With questions of a lifetime, the prayers all told to God
The doubt, the selfish ways, which came with day
The desires of the heart inside, the dreams and hopes of good
The tired scrolls, as sleep would come and stay

A love affair of self-ness, of words which made the mood
The lines which seemed to marry, one to one
The thoughts that weighed a ton or more, then those of well reviewed
The greyness of a winters day, the basking in the sun

She hated this, his pleasure, that the pen could turn him warm
That words scrolled onto parchment, set him free
But slowly then accepted him for all he had performed
And that life for that moment, was the way it was to be

If you wrote this for me, the applause is deafening...if you wrote it for everyone else, stand back for the throw of the roses...

well done Rick! Thank you!

Rick, I must admit that I first read this because your first name is the same as my husband's.....silly reason...then I had to read it a second time as it was so captivating. Now I am going back for thirds, this is wonderful writing!!! Chris
