Way back then when Passions started
We were quite the happy lot,
Sharing warmth and love and smiles
With poetry and who-knows-what.

Before too long our fame had spread
Throughout the entire internet
As where a poet could relax
And post his work without regret.

A wealth of poets came aboard
Creating this great family
From every state and overseas
They came to share their poetry.

As things can often go, however,
Bad's attracted with the good
And rotten apples sneaked their way
Into our world of brotherhood.

First came Toerag *evil hisses*
Testing waters, so to speak,
Loud and boisterous (although funny)
Insulting us with tongue-in-cheek.

Then, when he sensed no resistance
To his crude, offensive way
He called his friend LongJohn the Sailor
Inviting him to come and play.

Thus our Passions was infected
By this evil, motley crew
Bent on hell-fire and destruction
(Although LongJohn was funny, too)

VAS, I tell you, it was brutal!
But I was the better man.
Bit by bit, I beat them 'til,
With tails between their legs, they ran.

Toerag comes by on occasion,
Drops a poem then runs for cover.
LongJohn, though, still tries to show
The gals that he is quite a lover.

So I spank him when I have to...
Gently, though, so he won't cry
Until he knows he's met his match
And runs back home to Lorelei.

P.S.

VAS, you ask if there's a LongJohn?
Yes, I can tell you, it is so.
He is a poet of first class...
One of the finest that I know.

We like to wage our war of wits
And love when others join the fun.
We never get offended by
The silly insults we have done.

He's been a guest here at my house
Along with his wife Lorelei
And we've shared meals and poetry
Together and with Liz and Sy.

We both respect each other's wits
And, though we seldom keep it clean,
We always smile as we fight on
And NEVER think of it is mean.

Yes, Virginia, there's a LongJohn
Not a figment of pretend.
He is a man I'm honored and am
Proud that I can call my friend.

Well, Long John should feel honored too, having such a tale told about him!

Awww, you went an got all mushy at the end, Deer!

It's fun having all three of you wise guys back with us!

Deer is the gentleman,
kind words for everyone
while Toe likes the direct approach,
seduction under the sun,
LngJhn's got a bit of mystery
wrapped up in his poetry,
think I'll take all three of youse
home wit me!

well, i can honestly say that YES there IS a Virginia and here i am smack dab in it!!

and i can also honestly say that YES there is a longjohn and i, too have had the pleasure of meeting him and his lovely wife lorelei.... and....

this poem you've written, michael, is such a beautiful tribute ....

also brings back fond memories....

a sailor, a 'deer and a toe
were fine poets or didn't you know?
they all wrote some verses
with wit, jokes and curses
and put on a kind of a show

the sailor  was awfully slick
the kitties he often did kick --
and 'deer penned some jollys
toe answered his follys -
all witty, all funny, all quick!!

--------
wonderful poem, michael

Michael *lots of embarrassed blubbering here*, I know when somebody is fighting dirty.  How can I ever write something of evility about you now?  I'll have to wait at least a day!  lol  Thanks for the tribute, Mike.  I'm really quite pleased.

BTW - I invited Toe - not the other way around.  Along with Rainbow girl and Suthern.  I knew a home when I came here.  Thanks for your words.
