Listening to every heart

She Writes

closeted amid sachets of lavender silk
lay a box clasped, latched against eyes
he was bereft, her soul he sought to seek
so carefully he lifted, and then prized

her coffer open, finding papers by her hand
slowly he began to read, as, by her verse
she spoke not of love but matters grand
all wrapped in curlicues, poetry immersed

she wrote of art, artists, musicians and lore
of nature, beasts, birds, and grand shores
though and through her lines he came to find
she wrote most her thoughts of mind

she penned that of what she was not
but sought to find her soul’s desire
in giving beauty to that which was wrought
from within her internal heart of fire

for in her was to cast upon waters, bread
to walk in humbleness beside her mate
to thank God duly, and in His stead
realize that all craft their daily fate

O yes, it was a dream that she cast about
trying to depict invisible in her lines
she would let men write of historical touts
while she penned gentleness, refined

she ached, aspired to transport souls
to harbors of lightness, greatness and cheer
obliterating desolation, her goal
her poetry was this, her intent so clear

she, who penned thoughts so fine
knew others more gifted, poetically
so she had tied up her sheaves in twine
and laid them down aesthetically

now he found them after her depart
and ached aloud, her intent decreed
she had always spoken from her heart
her love of mankind, for one to read

Yanno, Sunshine - This was really effective at reaching in and touching my heart.  I think I'll reread it if you don't mind.  I'm starting to blubber like an old seadog.

Karilea - You are right - this is a perfect complement to Lady's poem - beautifully done and absolutly true to form.  Your poem and hers reinforce my belief that women are the most amazing, wonderful creatures.

I Loooooove the whole poem, but the last line stole my heart....be gentle with it.

and...the last two lines said it all!
Well Sunshine, you and Lady make a fine pair of bookends indeed!  You know I am smiling from ear to ear I bet, and put it where it belonged.
