The Kids   (Lost Innocence)

Isn’t it strange that a kid could be your enemy?
Isn’t it weird that innocence is lost so early.
Maybe it’s me but childhood is all you have, it’s the time that you create yourself.
School shootings & kids killing kids wasn’t heard of,
Adults would rather not blame the kid but blame someone else.
This day and age,
Rage hits a younger breed of mind..
The ones with thoughts and dreams..
Instead of thoughts of finger-paint & recess…. Its pipebombs and genocide,
And Revenge on bullies, who hurt your pride,
Columbine, the turning point for children to make a statement.. Kind of like a twisted youth movement,
Not a protest,
Media aided television coverage is the best.
Where did America go wrong???
When I was growing up school was safe to learn and be free,
But then again that was between preschool and elementary.
Peer inside a school today they appear as prisons with books,
Metal detectors, cameras, police officers with glocks,
Snipers on rooftops and Master Locks.
What ever happened to the days of Kickball, and games like hide and go seek,
Watching filmstrips, bookfairs and science projects.
I thought it was our youth we parents were here to protect.
Threats by uprising groups like the Trench Coat Mafia,
Threats of violence that fall on minds like whispers fall on deaf ears… no one seems to hear them..
But turn on a t.v… and you will hear them…
I fear the day when I have to take my child to school..
Will that be the last time I hear him??????
I don’t want him to grow up scared..Teachers shouldn’t have to fear him,
The kids are crying out for help.. Now it’s our turn to hear them.

Oh, you have written an excellent piece here!
So many times I have thought these very same things, and wondered at the change in our society.  This should be read by EVERYONE, and especially those with children. Well done, my friend!

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...
