Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-09-02 03:53 PM

Paired

thin he had always stood
upon the ground he tread
thinner yet in later days
Auschwitz seemed his bed

stubborn ran through his veins
a life he still would live
death would soon come claim
the last breath that he would give

in his sleep he was not here
though his hands were softly held
his life to me was still quite dear
love in my heart had swelled

the misery on mother’s face
was grief in its finest hour
her arms throbbed for his embrace
echoed kisses he had showered

she ached for all her helplessness
she was his greatest support
went without her needed rest
for the Love of her life’s escort

to advise a Love of this magnitude
became my burden to bear
she faced me with some gratitude
said “I’ll take it from here,”

at his side she knelt to whisper
“Darling, I’ll be okay if you leave,”
imagining his lips would kiss her
as she said, “I promise not to grieve,”

to tell a Love that it’s all right
to steal away in dark of night
to where heaven beckons bright
as God awaits to greet your sight

He slipped away on a Sunday’s morn
a small smile of blessed content
in the next life to be reborn
his time here on earth now spent

soon Time had come for her at last
to tread life’s waters thin
but one could see her fingering fast
at thoughts of missing him

so when physicians gave us news
of the cancer’s malignant spread
she took in all remedial brews
but did not fear cancer’s dread

she took to planning a final hour
to share with her babes on earth
but her heart sought heaven’s bower
and the thought of love, rebirthed

our last touch was but voice to ear
“I’ll be right and fine,” said she
“stay where you are, don’t come here,”
shooing away melancholy

she had need to mark the hours
believed in a being’s right to pass
quickly went her way one eve
to join her Love at last

I miss most their warmth and cheer
their laughter, smiles, and shine
but in my memories, they are clear
and in my heart, they’re mine

Karilea--What a heartwarming poem about dying.  To know that she is reborn to time with love again, gives grief compensation.  A tender write, sweet one.

I really appreciate the presence of mind depicted here when facing the final rest.... Good show there Karilea Sunshine!

Oh what a great love they had, and still do, forever, I'm sure. This gave me chills, and makes me think I should stop being so crabby with the world, evidently there are still great loves and great people.
Luv you for your wonderful spirit.

Karilea-
Oh my...I felt this to the very core of me.
What a lovely, yet heartwrenching write.

"to tell a Love that it’s all right
to steal away in dark of night
      to where heaven beckons bright
as God awaits to greet your sight"

"I miss most their warmth and cheer
      their laughter, smiles, and shine
but in my memories, they are clear
and in my heart, they’re mine"

  Such sadness blanketed in comforting
  warmth and beauty...

Heart Hugs to you, my friend,
  ~vicky

Sunshine, this was truly beautiful and endearing.  Makes one pause for a moment and consider the "bigger picture", and that is a very good thing.

Sunshine, A beautiful poem about inner strength and the power of love.

Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away.

A treasure of a poem...I can't see my computer screen for the tears.  A poem about death that warms the heart?  I did not know it could be done.

Death comes not when we cease to breath, but when we cease to dream.

Excellent. Quiet impressive.
...to tell a Love that it’s all right
to steal away in dark of night
to where heaven beckons bright
as God awaits to greet your sight...
she had need to mark the hours
believed in a being’s right to pass
quickly went her way one eve
to join her Love at last...

Take comfort that they're together forever.
