My loon is watching over me.
Standing proudly, erectly,
but with his head hung low
he opens his beak widely
to speak his hello.
With a wail-like motif
of rapidly rising notes,
in half octave steps
that flip upwardly toward the sky,
the love song he sings
joins celestial voices on high.

Suddenly, the dance begins,
and with a yodel unique
and an impressive water gait,
protecting the nest and
protecting his mate,
he cries out to you and I
and any others passing by
to honor the sanctuary
for which he would die.
And he cries out please
This is our home!
Please leave us alone!
This is our home!

Midnitesun. A-musing keeps me in tune with the loon.

Nothing quite like the loon's call is there?
Those who have not been on the water with them, especially at dawn or dusk, will never understand.
I can hear them now . . .

Thanks for this.

Marge: Thanks for reading, I knew you would like this..being another 'featherhead' like me ..hehe

Krawdad: So you too know the magic of the loon. Thanks for reading, glad you enjoyed it. There are more loon tunes in my head, but they are just little wails and cries, not full songs yet. And I intend to work on my poetic craft hourly until I get it good enough for anyone to hear my loons, even if they have never experienced them, or are unable to hear the cries.
