Between a laugh and a tear...

0 posted 2001-09-01 01:55 AM

...for Dad!
I love you, I miss you

A Nod And A Wink

Time goes by
Sways to and fro
You have to wonder
As we come and go
Is it ever enough?
Just to say I know

We've too much to say
With just a nod and a wink
All too easy to loose
Gone in less than a blink
Asking then, what would it take?
To make us all just stop and think

And now throughout the years
The tears they'll come all too often
For a love that's lost is too long gone
Leaving stolen moments as memories soften
And as life goes on one can only hope
That the lesson learned is not forgotten
.
.

.
.
extraxt from Like A Rock...by Bob Seger

My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock

Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock

And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Twenty years now
Where'd they go?
twenty years
I don't know
sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone

And sometimes late at night
When I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall
recall

Like a rock. standin' arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin' from the gate
Like a rock, carryin' the weight
Like a rock

So I know just what I am." ~ Van Morrison

I know where you're coming from. I lost my Mom very suddenly a few years ago, and there isn't a day that I don't miss her. Unfortunately, I think we often don't appreciate our parents enough until they're gone. I know I didn't. We had a great relationship, but I still didn't appreciated her enough at the time.

Heartfelt feelings, beautifully put

A wink and a nod and they're gone forever from this earth, except in our memories. I recently lost both my parents, and I wish I had taken more time to get to know why they did what they did, thought the way they thought, and loved each other so completely that the time they endured separation was a mere four months. Thank you for the beautiful words.

EagleOne, only when they are gone do we take the time to wonder at their greatness in our lives.  I talk to my Mom often, but seem to forget my Dad.  Thanks for making us think,  ME

Dee ~ Yes my friend, it is all too easy to loose! Take care!

Tracey ~ Yes, you do know the feelings. Sad that I think far too many of us do. Thank you for adding your thoughts.

Midnitesun ~ I feel for your loss. In time we come to understand that they did indeed know, it's just nice to be able to say it.

Mother Earth ~ I think the same applies to all those we care about in our lives. I like to think that we live and learn, and that can only make this world a better place, thank you!

Marge ~ You are always there with a kind word and a hug. Both are very much appreciated my friend, thank you. Take care!

into his eyes...well I don't think that this
is just a family trait....you saw him
there...because he is...always with you and
always smiling....this is a beautiful
tribute to your father my friend...hugs to
you on this upcoming Aussie Father's Day!!
He'd be proud....just look into the eyes of

Such heart-felt poetry and I'm sure speaks to many people, who have lost a parent.

ethome ~ Funny how so many years down the track the lesson now seems so elementary. Still at least it was learned, thank you for your thoughts.

Butterfly ~ My dear friend, even through the occasional tear I can see much more clearly now.  And yes, I think too there can be some times when you just know. Thank you my friend, thank you!

Janet ~ As always, it is good to be here, and even better to be smiling.   Thank you for your thoughts!

g ~ So many Bob Seger Fans  .  I know my Father knew, I just would have liked the chance to tell him one last time. Thank you, glad to know you enjoyed.

Trillium ~ I think there are many who hear this, I thank you for adding your thoughts.

Nightshade ~ Sometimes it can take a while but I like to think that eventually we all learn the lessons, thank you!

Yanno, I ache every day with three current losses of loved ones in my life, and could never quite get it down (the feelings), but you did!  Great poem, and here's a hug for you too.

Eddie
This was such a moving piece of writing that was beautifully portrayed in a wonderful dedication to your father.  As soon as I read that it was dedicated to your father, it brought an instant tear. Two years on from my father's death and I still have trouble coming to terms with the fact he is gone and I will never see him again....it breaks my heart. Time heals but the wounds of such a loss will never go.  I loved the lyrics of that Bob Seger song (I've always been a big fan of his music and wonderful lyrics)  Thank you so much for sharing this piece of your heart.  Take care......Sue

The only person close to me that has passed is my maternal Grandfather....I so dread the day when others go.  The only comfort I have is in the hope of a better place for them.  This is a well written piece....touching to me!!!  I love the title....and the whole poem makes one stop and think!!!!!

HUGS
