One brightly shining star,
here in the midnight sky,
tempts me to wish.
Not for riches or fame,
But for a love to last a lifetime.
Loving eyes that see only me,
a willing heart that bends
in the tough times,
never doubting the love we share.
Fingers that caress and tease,
touching me, taking away the pain.
A man to stand beside me,
to laugh, to love, to dream.
My wish came true...in you.

For Tom with all my love   smooch!!!

Good for you, Paula!!!!  Though, just to be safe, I'd have taken the $ and the 15 minutes.

Wonderful write Paula - you know (not referring to you necessarily - just rambling here) I "watch" the poetry I read, "listen" to what others say, and "feel" what they feel - and I perceive that most "rely" on this "all-abiding LOVE", this "magic" that holds everything together. LOVE, I think, brings us together, forms the pair-bond that causes our hearts to race and our souls to hold hands - but it's the "knowing" one another, the being "comfortable" with one another, the "my best friend" awareness that holds us together for life (kinda what I see in your poem here).  If we have that, together we can get through anything - anger, saddness, money problems, death...   They're all a part of climbing life's mountain, and being "comfortable with one's climbing partner, the one at the other end of the tether, is of untmost importance.  Love is immensely important and wonderful, but we have to transcend love and understand, know, accept, rely-on, and have belief in our partner, because love itself is fleeting when the rest doesn't exist.

Sorry about the soapbox, but  I speak with a lot of "kids" and "adults" that just don't know this - believe "love" is all there is and nothing else is important and never see the things that can cause it's demise.

They're blind to the realities of life and overrun by passions, hormones, that are a fantastic part of living but do not provide for the hum-drum, day to day living and supporting of a family for twenty, thirty, forty or more years.

Marriage is a commitment they frivioulsy take part in not understanding it's a life-bond, not a one to five year, or so, contract just to get your partner off the "street" till the "excitement" wears off.

Better quit now...this could go on and on...
