I sat beside the highway, With my thumb up in the air. I had no destination, Nor a date for getting there. I used to watch the cars go by, And dreamed of greener grass. I dreamed of lovely ladies, But the cars kept going past... There's something in that lifestyle That thrills a man inside, A freedom from life's burdens As the cars keep going by... The sun is sinking in the West- I'm walking toward it's beams, A drifter with a suitcase, Who just had to chase his dreams. But the days are long behind me, When I'd pack and leave my kin, Sometimes I almost wish that I Could do it all again! I'd like to work a round up, To sleep out 'neath the stars. To sit beside the Interstate- And curse the passing cars... Those days are gone forever, But I still have tales to spin- Sometime I almost wish that I Could do it all again! |

I love the flow of the words and the freedom of life found in the thoughts. Ah yes, I well remember those days of waiting by the highway on a journey to where ever. Really enjoyed your poem |
