Our work of art

We paint from the same palette
Unimportant who paints
The background or foreground

I all cooled up
And full of dreams
You determined
To make the future our own
Without the mistakes of our parents

Your brush strokes were firm
And I learned to reach
For one dream at a time

I painted toddler toys and play pins
And you filled them

He at six months said
“I lov lu da da
And I was committed
To painting the brightest life

You cleaned the brushes
And spruced up the room
I used motor oil and axle grease
As paint for a while

Then we began
To paint in unison
Three more loving little dreams
Became reality

Illness like paint thinner
Splashed on our palette
Our colors mixed
And shades of gray
Dripped from our brushes

Devoted to our dreams
And to one another
We stretched clean canvas
And love moved us forward

We felt revived
Filled with new vigor
As the youngest came of age

Bold broad strokes of love
Carried us through
Over Those twenty five years

Now separate yet together
We work on
Let’s put your photos
With my poetry

We look back and laugh and cry
We look forward and smile

I love you Carol, my wife

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.

This is absolutely beautiful, I hope you have many more years to work, and enjoy your wife and life together.

Sometimes we have to follow a stronger voice, even if it's silent.
