state of confusion

Waiting for Labor Day

The forests have been burning for weeks
and
one-hundred degree temperatures linger,
shades of brown are everywhere -
in the sky, on the ground,
interspersed by scorched, black patches
of old brush fires.

Smoke has settled into the valleys,
from my hillside view,
it looks hellish,
putrid air assaults the eyes,
throat and lungs;
officials warn
to stay indoors today,
again.

I watch the calendar,
marking time
until Labor Day,
the unofficial end of summer,
not just the last day to wear white,
but hopefully,
the beginning of autumn climes.

No wonder fall is the season
of the death,
summer reaps it all.

Corinne, I've been watching the fires on the news....and can only take reassurance in the knowledge that green shall spring again....

well done, Dear....

it is so hard to watch the forests go up in smoke...especially when we consider the animals and the homes that get taken, too, one consolation...

God created certain conifers with the only way to propigate by being unable to open their 'petals' and release their seeds when the temperature becomes great enough...via a fire is the only way those trees multiply.

He makes a way.

From one involved in fire management, I appreciate your perspective.
Thanks.
